दीक्षायुक्तस्तदा दक्षः कृतकौतुकमंगलः ।। भार्यया सहितो रेजे कृतस्वस्त्ययनो भृशम् ।। २१ ।।

With the proper initiation, tying of the holy thread round his wrist and Svastyayana[7] rites duly performed, Dakṣa along with his wife, shone well.

english translation

dIkSAyuktastadA dakSaH kRtakautukamaMgalaH || bhAryayA sahito reje kRtasvastyayano bhRzam || 21 ||

तस्मिन् यज्ञे वृतश्शंभुर्न दक्षेण दुरात्मना ।। कपालीति विनिश्चित्य तस्य यज्ञार्हता न हि ।। २२ ।।

Dakṣa, the evil-minded, did not invite Śiva for that sacrifice, deciding that He was not worthy of taking part in the sacrifice because He was a Kapālin.

tasmin yajJe vRtazzaMbhurna dakSeNa durAtmanA || kapAlIti vinizcitya tasya yajJArhatA na hi || 22 ||

कपालिभार्येति सती दयिता स्वसुतापि च ।। नाहूता यज्ञविषये दक्षेणागुणदर्शिना ।। २३ ।।

In view of the fact that Satī was the wife of Kapālin, she was not invited, though she was his beloved daughter, by Dakṣa who was blind to her qualities.

kapAlibhAryeti satI dayitA svasutApi ca || nAhUtA yajJaviSaye dakSeNAguNadarzinA || 23 ||

एवं प्रवर्तमाने हि दक्षयज्ञे महोत्सवे ।। स्वकार्यलग्नास्तत्रासन् सर्वे तेऽध्वरसंमताः ।। २४ ।।

While the great festivities in the sacrifice of Dakṣa were being celebrated those who had assembled for the same were engrossed in their respective activities.

evaM pravartamAne hi dakSayajJe mahotsave || svakAryalagnAstatrAsan sarve te'dhvarasaMmatAH || 24 ||

एतस्मिन्नंतरेऽदृष्ट्वा तत्र वै शंकरं प्रभुम् ।। प्रोद्विग्नमानसश्शैवो दधीचो वाक्यमब्रवीत् ।। २५ ।।

In the meantime, Dadhīci a devotee of Śiva, realising that lord Śiva was not there became dispirited and spoke thus.
