इच्छेत्परापकारं यस्स तस्यैव भवेद्ध्रुवम् ॥ इति मत्वाऽपकारं नो कुर्यादन्यस्य पूरुषः ॥१६॥
If a man wishes evil of others, he himself becomes the victim of the same. There is no doubt about it. Realising this, no man shall wish evil of anyone else.
english translation
icchetparApakAraM yassa tasyaiva bhaveddhruvam ॥ iti matvA'pakAraM no kuryAdanyasya pUruSaH ॥16॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptप्रदक्षिणां प्रकुर्वंत्या वह्नेस्सत्याः पदद्वयम्॥ आविर्बभूव वसनात्तदद्राक्षमहं मुने ॥ १७ ॥
O sage, while going round the fire, the feet of Satī protruded out of the cloth that covered them. I looked at them.
english translation
pradakSiNAM prakurvaMtyA vahnessatyAH padadvayam॥ AvirbabhUva vasanAttadadrAkSamahaM mune ॥ 17 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptमदनाविष्टचेताश्च भूत्वांगानि व्यलोकयम् ॥ अहं सत्या द्विजश्रेष्ठ शिवमायाविमोहितः ॥१८॥
My mind being afflicted by love I stared at the limbs of Satī. O excellent brahmin, I was deluded by Śiva’s Māyā.
english translation
madanAviSTacetAzca bhUtvAMgAni vyalokayam ॥ ahaM satyA dvijazreSTha zivamAyAvimohitaH ॥18॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयथा यथाहं रम्याणि व्यैक्षमंगानि कौतुकात् ॥ सत्या बभूव संहृष्टः कामार्तो हि तथा तथा ॥१९॥
The more I stared at the beautiful limbs of Satī eagerly the more I became thrilled like a love-afflicted man.
english translation
yathA yathAhaM ramyANi vyaikSamaMgAni kautukAt ॥ satyA babhUva saMhRSTaH kAmArto hi tathA tathA ॥19॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअहमेवं तथा दृष्ट्वा दक्षजां च पतिव्रताम् ॥ स्मराविष्टमना वक्त्रं द्रष्टुकामोभवं मुने ॥ 2-2-19-२० ॥
Staring thus at the chaste daughter of Dakṣa and being afflicted by the cupid, O sage, I craved to see her face.
english translation
ahamevaM tathA dRSTvA dakSajAM ca pativratAm ॥ smarAviSTamanA vaktraM draSTukAmobhavaM mune ॥ 2-2-19-20 ॥
