।। ब्रह्मोवाच ।। कृत्वा दक्षस्तुतादानं यौतकं विविधं ददौ ।। हराय सुप्रसन्नश्च द्विजेभ्यो विविधं धनम् ।। १ ।।

Brahmā said: After giving his daughter in marriage, Dakṣa gave her different articles in the form of dowry. Many gifts were given to Śiva. Dakṣa gave monetary gifts to the brahmins with great delight.

english translation

|| brahmovAca || kRtvA dakSastutAdAnaM yautakaM vividhaM dadau || harAya suprasannazca dvijebhyo vividhaM dhanam || 1 ||

अथ शंभु मुदागत्य समुत्थाय कृतांजलिः ।। सार्द्धं कमलया चेदमुवाच गरुडध्वजः ।। २ ।।

Then Viṣṇu stood up. Approaching Śiva with palms joined in reverence and accompanied by Lakṣmī, the Garuḍa-vehicled God Viṣṇu spoke thus.

atha zaMbhu mudAgatya samutthAya kRtAMjaliH || sArddhaM kamalayA cedamuvAca garuDadhvajaH || 2 ||

।। विष्णुरुवाच ।। ।। देवदेव महादेव करुणासागर प्रभो ।। त्वं पिता जगतां तात सती माताखिलस्य च ।। ३ ।।

Viṣṇu said: O great lord, O ocean of mercy, lord of devas, O dear one, you are the father and Satī is the mother of the world.

english translation

|| viSNuruvAca || || devadeva mahAdeva karuNAsAgara prabho || tvaM pitA jagatAM tAta satI mAtAkhilasya ca || 3 ||

युवां लीलावतारौ द्वे सतां क्षेमाय सर्वदा ।। खलानां निग्रहार्थाय श्रुतिरेषा सनातनी ।। ४ ।।

You have taken incarnation out of sheer sport for the welfare of the good and suppression of the wicked—so says the eternal scripture.

yuvAM lIlAvatArau dve satAM kSemAya sarvadA || khalAnAM nigrahArthAya zrutireSA sanAtanI || 4 ||

स्निग्धनीलांजनश्यामशोभया शोभसे हर।। दाक्षायण्या यथा चाहं प्रतिलोमेन पद्मया ।।५।।

You are fair-complexioned and Satī has the blue lustre of the glossy collyrium. I on the other hand am blue in hue and Lakṣmī is fair-complexioned. You two shine in juxtaposition with us two.

snigdhanIlAMjanazyAmazobhayA zobhase hara|| dAkSAyaNyA yathA cAhaM pratilomena padmayA ||5||
