अथ सापि स्वयं भर्गं प्राप्तुमैच्छत्तदान्वहम् ॥ पितुर्मनोगतिं ज्ञात्वा मातुर्निकटमागमत् ॥ ११ ॥
She too desired to attain Śiva. Her desire grew every day. After knowing her father’s idea, she approached her mother.

पप्रच्छाज्ञां तपोहेतोश्शंकरस्य विनीतधीः ॥ मातुश्शिवाथ वैरिण्यास्सा सखी परमेश्वरी ॥१२॥
Satī, the great Goddess of wide intellect, sought the permission of her mother to perform the penance with Śiva as the goal, for the happiness of her mother Vīriṇī.

ततस्सती महेशानं पतिं प्राप्तुं दृढव्रता ॥ सा तमाराधयामास गृहे मातुरनुज्ञया ॥ १३॥
Firmly resolved in her desire to secure Śiva as her husband, she propitiated him in her own house with the permission of her mother.

आश्विने मासि नन्दायां तिथावानर्च भक्तितः ॥ गुडौदनैस्सलवणैर्हरं नत्वा निनाय तम् ॥ १४॥
In the month of Āśvina, (September-October), on Nandā Tithis (i.e. first, sixth and eleventh days of lunar fortnight) she worshipped Śiva with great devotion, offering cooked rice with jaggery and salt. She spent a month like that.

कार्तिकस्य चतुर्दश्यामपूपैः पायसैरपि ॥ समाकीर्णैस्समाराध्य सस्मार परमेश्वरम्॥ १५॥
On the Caturdaśī (14th day) of the month of Kārttika (October-November), she worshipped and meditated on Lord Śiva, offering sweet pies and puddings.
