कांताभिलाषमात्रं मे दृष्ट्वाऽनिंदद्वृषध्वजः ।। स कथं वनितां देवी स्वेच्छया संग्रहीष्यति ।।२६।

sanskrit

The bull-emblemed deity rebuked me merely for my feelings of love for a woman. How can He take a wife unto Himself, O Goddess, on His own accord?

english translation

kAMtAbhilASamAtraM me dRSTvA'niMdadvRSadhvajaH || sa kathaM vanitAM devI svecchayA saMgrahISyati ||26|

हरे गृहीतकांते तु कथं सृष्टिश्शुभावहा ।। आद्यंतमध्ये चैतस्य हेतौ तस्मिन्विरागिणि ।।२७।।

sanskrit

Śiva is the cause of this universe in the beginning, middle and end. If He remains detached and refuses to take a wife, how can auspicious creation come into being?

english translation

hare gRhItakAMte tu kathaM sRSTizzubhAvahA || AdyaMtamadhye caitasya hetau tasminvirAgiNi ||27||

इति चिंतापरो नाहं त्वदन्यं शरणं हितम्।। कृच्छ्रवांस्तेन विश्वस्य हितायैतत्कुरुष्व मे।।२८।।

This thought has tormented me. It was not conducive to any benefit to seek another shelter. So I request you for the benefit of the universe to accomplish the undertaking.

english translation

iti ciMtAparo nAhaM tvadanyaM zaraNaM hitam|| kRcchravAMstena vizvasya hitAyaitatkuruSva me||28||

न विष्णुस्तस्य मोहाय न लक्ष्मीर्न मनोभवः।। न चाप्यहं जगन्मातर्नान्यस्त्वां कोपि वै विना ।।२९।।

O mother of the universe, Viṣṇu is not competent to enthral Him, nor Lakṣmī, nor Kāma, nor I; in fact no one other than you.

english translation

na viSNustasya mohAya na lakSmIrna manobhavaH|| na cApyahaM jaganmAtarnAnyastvAM kopi vai vinA ||29||

तस्मात्त्वं दक्षजा भूत्वा दिव्यरूपा महेश्वरी ।। तत्पत्नी भव मद्भक्त्या योगिनं मोहयेश्वरम् ।।2.2.11.३०।।

Hence be born as Dakṣa’s daughter, the great Goddess of celestial beauty. Inspired by my devotion, be pleased to become His wife and fascinate the lord who at present is detached from the world.

english translation

tasmAttvaM dakSajA bhUtvA divyarUpA mahezvarI || tatpatnI bhava madbhaktyA yoginaM mohayezvaram ||2.2.11.30||
