नारद उवाच ।। ब्रह्मन् तात महाप्राज्ञ वद नो वदतां वर।। गते विष्णौ किमभवदकार्षीत्किं विधे भवान्।।१।।

Nārada said: O Brahmā, dear, of great intellect, please tell me, O most eloquent one. When Viṣṇu went away what happened? O what did you do?

english translation

nArada uvAca || brahman tAta mahAprAjJa vada no vadatAM vara|| gate viSNau kimabhavadakArSItkiM vidhe bhavAn||1||

ब्रह्मोवाच ।। विप्रनन्दनवर्य त्वं सावधानतया शृणु ।। विष्णौ गते भगवति यदकार्षमहं खलु ।।२।।

Brahmā said: O Brahmin, best of my sons, listen attentively to what I did when the lord Viṣṇu went away.

english translation

brahmovAca || vipranandanavarya tvaM sAvadhAnatayA zRNu || viSNau gate bhagavati yadakArSamahaM khalu ||2||

विद्याविद्यात्मिकां शुद्धां परब्रह्मस्वरूपिणीम् ।। स्तौमि देव जगद्धात्रीं दुर्गां शम्भुप्रियां सदा ।।३।।

I began a continuous laudatory prayer of the Goddess Durgā, the beloved of Śiva, the creator of the universe, of the nature of Vidyā and Avidyā and identical with the pure supreme Brahman.

english translation

vidyAvidyAtmikAM zuddhAM parabrahmasvarUpiNIm || staumi deva jagaddhAtrIM durgAM zambhupriyAM sadA ||3||

सर्वत्र व्यापिनीं नित्यां निरालंबां निराकुलाम्।। त्रिदेवजननीं वंदे स्थूलस्थूलामरूपिणीम्।। ।।४।।

I salute the Goddess who is omnipresent, eternal, for whom there is no support, who is never distressed, who is the mother of the three deities, who is the grossest of the gross and yet has no form.

english translation

sarvatra vyApinIM nityAM nirAlaMbAM nirAkulAm|| tridevajananIM vaMde sthUlasthUlAmarUpiNIm|| ||4||

त्वं चितिः परमानंदा परमात्मस्वरूपिणी ।। प्रसन्ना भव देवेशि मत्कार्यं कुरु ते नमः ।।५।।

O Goddess of the devas, you are Perfect knowledge, Supreme Bliss, identical with the supreme Soul. Be pleased. Grant me the fulfilment of my task. Obeisance to you.

english translation

tvaM citiH paramAnaMdA paramAtmasvarUpiNI || prasannA bhava devezi matkAryaM kuru te namaH ||5||
