मुनिर्दृष्ट्वाथ तां तत्र सुसंभावां स कौतुकी ।। वीक्षांचक्रे सरस्तत्र बृहल्लोहितसंज्ञकम् ।। ४६ ।।

sanskrit

On seeing her there full of noble feelings, the sage eagerly looked at the lake called Bṛhallohita.

english translation

munirdRSTvAtha tAM tatra susaMbhAvAM sa kautukI || vIkSAMcakre sarastatra bRhallohitasaMjJakam || 46 ||

चन्द्रभागा नदी तस्मात्प्राकाराद्दक्षिणांबुधिम् ।। यांती सा चैव ददृशे तेन सानुगिरेर्महत् ।। ४७ ।।

sanskrit

From the ridges of that big mountain which appeared like a big fort wall, the river Candrabhāgā rose and flowed towards the Southern sea. The sage saw that too.

english translation

candrabhAgA nadI tasmAtprAkArAddakSiNAMbudhim || yAMtI sA caiva dadRze tena sAnugirermahat || 47 ||

निर्भिद्य पश्चिमं सा तु चन्द्रभागस्य सा नदी ।। यथा हिमवतो गंगा तथा गच्छति सागरम् ।।४८।।

sanskrit

That river breaks the western wing of the mountain Candrabhāga even as Gaṅgā of the mountain Himālaya and flows towards the sea.

english translation

nirbhidya pazcimaM sA tu candrabhAgasya sA nadI || yathA himavato gaMgA tathA gacchati sAgaram ||48||

तस्मिन् गिरौ चन्द्रभागे बृहल्लोहिततीरगाम् ।। संध्यां दृष्ट्वाथ पप्रच्छ वसिष्ठस्सादरं तदा ।।४९।।

sanskrit

Seeing Sandhyā on the bank of the lake Bṛhallohita on that mountain Candrabhāga, Vasiṣṭha asked her respectfully.

english translation

tasmin girau candrabhAge bRhallohitatIragAm || saMdhyAM dRSTvAtha papraccha vasiSThassAdaraM tadA ||49||

वशिष्ठ .उवाच ।। किमर्थमागता भद्रे निर्जनं त्वं महीधरम् ।। कस्य वा तनया किं वा भवत्यापि चिकीर्षितम् ।। 2.2.5.५० ।।

Vasiṣṭha said: O good lady, why have you come to this mountain devoid of men? Whose daughter are you? What is it that you intend to do?

english translation

vaziSTha .uvAca || kimarthamAgatA bhadre nirjanaM tvaM mahIdharam || kasya vA tanayA kiM vA bhavatyApi cikIrSitam || 2.2.5.50 ||
