यद्यन्मध्यगृहे पश्येत्तत्तन्नीत्वा सुदुर्मतिः ॥ अर्पयेद्द्यूतकाराणां सकुप्यं वसनादिकम् ॥ ३६ ॥
The wicked fellow (Guṇanidhi) used to lay his hands on whatever he could see in the house, a cloth, a base metal etc. and take it to the gambling den, there to lose the same to his brother gamblers.
english translation
yadyanmadhyagRhe pazyettattannItvA sudurmatiH ॥ arpayeddyUtakArANAM sakupyaM vasanAdikam ॥ 36 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptन्यस्तां रत्नमयीं गेहे करस्य पितुरूर्मिकाम् ॥ चोरयित्वैकदादाय दुरोदरकरेऽर्पयत् ॥ ३७ ॥
Once he stole a very valuable ring of his father set with precious stones and gave it to one the of gamblers.
english translation
nyastAM ratnamayIM gehe karasya piturUrmikAm ॥ corayitvaikadAdAya durodarakare'rpayat ॥ 37 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptदीक्षितेन परिज्ञातो दैवाद्द्यूतकृतः करे ॥ उवाच दीक्षितस्तं च कुतो लब्धा त्वयोर्मिका ॥ ३८ ॥
It chanced that one day the Dīkṣita saw it in the hand of the gambler. He asked the fellow—“Where did you get this ring from?”
english translation
dIkSitena parijJAto daivAddyUtakRtaH kare ॥ uvAca dIkSitastaM ca kuto labdhA tvayormikA ॥ 38 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपृष्टस्तेनाथ निर्बंधादसकृत्तमुवाच सः ॥ मामाक्षिपसि विप्रोच्चैः किं मया चौर्यकर्मणा ॥३९॥
First the gambler did not say anything. When repeatedly asked he said—“O brahmin, you are unnecessarily accusing me of theft.

pRSTastenAtha nirbaMdhAdasakRttamuvAca saH ॥ mAmAkSipasi viproccaiH kiM mayA cauryakarmaNA ॥39॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptलब्धा मुद्रा त्वदीयेन पुत्रेणैव समर्पिता ॥ मम मातुर्हि पूर्वेद्युर्जित्वा नीतो हि शाटकः॥2-1-17-४०॥
It was your son who gave it to me. On the previous day I had won his mother’s upper garment.
english translation
labdhA mudrA tvadIyena putreNaiva samarpitA ॥ mama mAturhi pUrvedyurjitvA nIto hi zATakaH॥2-1-17-40॥
