न केवलं ममैवैतदंगुलीयं समर्पितम् ॥ अन्येषां द्यूतकर्तॄणां भूरि तेनार्पितं वसु ॥ ४१ ॥
Do not think that I alone was the winner of this ring. He has lost many costly things to other gamblers as well.
english translation
रत्नकुप्यदुकूलानि शृंगारप्रभृतीनि च ॥ भाजनानि विचित्राणि कांस्यताम्रमयानि च ॥ ४२ ॥
He has thus given gems, metals, silk garments, vessels, golden vases, and different sorts of copper and bell metal pots.
english translation
नग्नीकृत्य प्रतिदिनं बध्यते द्यूतकारिभिः ॥ न तेन सदृशः कश्चिदाक्षिको भूमिमंडले ॥ ४३ ॥
Everyday he is being bound stark naked by the gamblers. In the whole world you cannot see such a useless poor gambler as he (your son).
english translation
अद्यावधि त्वया विप्र दुरोदर शिरोमणिः ॥ कथं नाज्ञायि तनयोऽविनयानयकोविदः ॥ ४४ ॥
How is it that till now, O brahmin, you have not realised that your son is a ring leader of base gamblers, very clever in misdemeanour and unfair means?
english translation
इति श्रुत्वा त्रपाभारविनम्रतरकंधरः ॥ प्रावृत्य वाससा मौलिं प्राविशन्निजमन्दिरम् ॥ ४५ ॥
On hearing these words, the poor Dīkṣita’s head bent down with shame. He covered his face and head with a cloth and quietly slipped back into his house.
