विष्णुरुवाच ॥ किमर्थमागतोसि त्वं वैकुंठं योगिदुर्लभम् ॥ किं कष्टं ते समुद्भूतं तत्त्वं वद ममाग्रतः ॥ ४१ ॥
Viṣṇu said: Why have you come to Vaikuṇṭha inaccessible even to Yogins. What distress has befallen you. Tell me just here.
english translation
सनत्कुमार उवाच ॥ इति श्रुत्वा हरेर्वाक्यं प्रणम्य च मुहुर्मुहुः ॥ बद्धाञ्जलिपुटो भूत्वा विन यानतकन्धरः ॥ ४२ ॥
Samtkumāra said: On hearing the words of Viṣṇu and bowing to him with palms joined in reverence he narrated to him the activities of Śaṅkhacūḍa and the distress suffered by the gods.
english translation
वृत्तांतं कथयामास शंखचूडकृतं तदा ॥ देवकष्टसमाख्यानं पुरो विष्णोः परात्मनः ॥ ४३ ॥
Then, the account of Shankhachooda's deeds — the story of the gods' suffering — was narrated before Vishnu, the Supreme Soul.

हरिस्तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा सर्वतसर्वभाववित् ॥ प्रहस्योवाच भगवांस्तद्रहस्यं विधिं प्रति ॥४४ ॥
On hearing that Viṣṇu who knew everything laughed. The lord then told Brahmā the secret of Śaṅkhacūḍa.

श्रीभगवानुवाच ॥ शंखचूडस्य वृत्तांतं सर्वं जानामि पद्मज ॥ मद्भक्तस्य च गोपस्य महातेजस्विनः पुरा ॥४५॥
Lord Viṣṇu said: O lotus-born Brahmā, I know everything about Śaṅkhacūḍa, a great devotee of mine, of great splendour and who had been formerly a cowherd.
