हिर॑ण्यकेशो॒ रज॑सो विसा॒रेऽहि॒र्धुनि॒र्वात॑ इव॒ ध्रजी॑मान् । शुचि॑भ्राजा उ॒षसो॒ नवे॑दा॒ यश॑स्वतीरप॒स्युवो॒ न स॒त्याः ॥ हिरण्यकेशो रजसो विसारेऽहिर्धुनिर्वात इव ध्रजीमान् । शुचिभ्राजा उषसो नवेदा यशस्वतीरपस्युवो न सत्याः ॥
The golden-haired Agni is the agitator of the clouds when the rain is poured forth, and, moving with the swiftness of the wind, shines with a bright radiance. The mornings know not (of the showers, like honest (people), who, provided with food, are intent upon their own labours.
english translation
आ ते॑ सुप॒र्णा अ॑मिनन्तँ॒ एवै॑: कृ॒ष्णो नो॑नाव वृष॒भो यदी॒दम् । शि॒वाभि॒र्न स्मय॑मानाभि॒रागा॒त्पत॑न्ति॒ मिह॑: स्त॒नय॑न्त्य॒भ्रा ॥ आ ते सुपर्णा अमिनन्तँ एवैः कृष्णो नोनाव वृषभो यदीदम् । शिवाभिर्न स्मयमानाभिरागात्पतन्ति मिहः स्तनयन्त्यभ्रा ॥
The falling (rays), accompanied by the moving (Maruts), strike against (the cloud); the black shedder of rain has roared; when this is done, (the shower) comes with delightful and smiling (drops), the rain descends, the clouds thunder.
english translation
यदी॑मृ॒तस्य॒ पय॑सा॒ पिया॑नो॒ नय॑न्नृ॒तस्य॑ प॒थिभी॒ रजि॑ष्ठैः । अ॒र्य॒मा मि॒त्रो वरु॑ण॒: परि॑ज्मा॒ त्वचं॑ पृञ्च॒न्त्युप॑रस्य॒ योनौ॑ ॥ यदीमृतस्य पयसा पियानो नयन्नृतस्य पथिभी रजिष्ठैः । अर्यमा मित्रो वरुणः परिज्मा त्वचं पृञ्चन्त्युपरस्य योनौ ॥
When this, (the lightning, Agni), nourishes the world with the milk of the rain, and conducts it by the most direct ways to (the enjoyment of) water, then Mitra, Aryaman, Varuṇa and the circumambient (troop of Maruts) pierce through the (investing) membrane into the womb of the cloud.
english translation
अग्ने॒ वाज॑स्य॒ गोम॑त॒ ईशा॑नः सहसो यहो । अ॒स्मे धे॑हि जातवेदो॒ महि॒ श्रव॑: ॥ अग्ने वाजस्य गोमत ईशानः सहसो यहो । अस्मे धेहि जातवेदो महि श्रवः ॥
Agni, sone of strength, lord of food and of cattle, give us abundant sustenance, you who know all that exists.
english translation
स इ॑धा॒नो वसु॑ष्क॒विर॒ग्निरी॒ळेन्यो॑ गि॒रा । रे॒वद॒स्मभ्यं॑ पुर्वणीक दीदिहि ॥ स इधानो वसुष्कविरग्निरीळेन्यो गिरा । रेवदस्मभ्यं पुर्वणीक दीदिहि ॥
He, the blazing Agni, who is wise, and the granter of dwellings, is to be praised by our hymns; oḥ! you whose mouth (glows) with many (flames), shine (propitiously, so) that food-providing wealth may be ours.
