वने॑षु जा॒युर्मर्ते॑षु मि॒त्रो वृ॑णी॒ते श्रु॒ष्टिं राजे॑वाजु॒र्यम् ॥ वनेषु जायुर्मर्तेषु मित्रो वृणीते श्रुष्टिं राजेवाजुर्यम् ॥
Born in the woods, the friend of man, Agni protects his worshipper, as a rājā favours an able man; kind as a defender, prosperous as a performer of (good) works, may he, the invoker of the gods, the bearer of oblations, be propitious.
english translation
vane॑Su jA॒yurmarte॑Su mi॒tro vR॑NI॒te zru॒STiM rAje॑vAju॒ryam ॥ vaneSu jAyurmarteSu mitro vRNIte zruSTiM rAjevAjuryam ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptक्षेमो॒ न सा॒धुः क्रतु॒र्न भ॒द्रो भुव॑त्स्वा॒धीर्होता॑ हव्य॒वाट् ॥ क्षेमो न साधुः क्रतुर्न भद्रो भुवत्स्वाधीर्होता हव्यवाट् ॥
The sacrifice is not safe nor is it auspicious The sacrificial fire is not safe, nor is it auspicious.
english translation
kSemo॒ na sA॒dhuH kratu॒rna bha॒dro bhuva॑tsvA॒dhIrhotA॑ havya॒vAT ॥ kSemo na sAdhuH kraturna bhadro bhuvatsvAdhIrhotA havyavAT ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptहस्ते॒ दधा॑नो नृ॒म्णा विश्वा॒न्यमे॑ दे॒वान्धा॒द्गुहा॑ नि॒षीद॑न् ॥ हस्ते दधानो नृम्णा विश्वान्यमे देवान्धाद्गुहा निषीदन् ॥
Holding in his hand all (sacrificial) wealth, and hiding in the hollows (of the waters), he filled the gods with alarm; the leaders, (the gods), the upholders of acts, then recognize Agni when they have recited the prayers conceived in the heart.
english translation
haste॒ dadhA॑no nR॒mNA vizvA॒nyame॑ de॒vAndhA॒dguhA॑ ni॒SIda॑n ॥ haste dadhAno nRmNA vizvAnyame devAndhAdguhA niSIdan ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptवि॒दन्ती॒मत्र॒ नरो॑ धियं॒धा हृ॒दा यत्त॒ष्टान्मन्त्राँ॒ अशं॑सन् ॥ विदन्तीमत्र नरो धियंधा हृदा यत्तष्टान्मन्त्राँ अशंसन् ॥
They knew this and chanted the mantras with their hearts. Anyone who is intelligent in this world understands the Vedas by chanting mantras that are satisfying to him.
english translation
vi॒dantI॒matra॒ naro॑ dhiyaM॒dhA hR॒dA yatta॒STAnmantrA~॒ azaM॑san ॥ vidantImatra naro dhiyaMdhA hRdA yattaSTAnmantrA~ azaMsan ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअ॒जो न क्षां दा॒धार॑ पृथि॒वीं त॒स्तम्भ॒ द्यां मन्त्रे॑भिः स॒त्यैः ॥ अजो न क्षां दाधार पृथिवीं तस्तम्भ द्यां मन्त्रेभिः सत्यैः ॥
Like the unborn (sun) he sustains the earth and the firmament, and props up the heaven with true prayers; Agni, in whom is all sustenance, cherish the plural ces that are grateful to animals; repair (to the spots) where there is no pasturage.
