Each day twenty cantos are to be sung with a sweet voice, in their many measures, just as I have laid them out for you before.

Nor should any greed at all be shown, not even the slightest, out of desire for wealth. What use is wealth to those who dwell in a hermitage and live on fruits and roots?

If that scion of Kakutstha should ask you, 'Whose sons are you, boys?', then tell the king thus: 'We two are disciples of Valmiki.'

Tuning these sweet-toned strings, or this rendering never heard before, sing most sweetly, the two of you free from all anxiety.

It should be sung from the very beginning, and the king should not be slighted; for the king is by sacred law the father of all beings.
