द्वीपिनेव यथा श्वानः शुना मार्जारका यथा । मार्जारेण यथा सर्पाः सर्पेण च यथा ऽ ऽखवः ॥ 7-7-21 ॥

as dogs flee before a leopard, and cats before a dog, as snakes flee before a cat, and mice before a snake,

english translation

तथा ते राक्षसाः सर्वे विष्णुना प्रभविष्णुना । द्रवन्ति द्राविताश्चन्ये शायिताश्च महीतले ॥ 7-7-22 ॥

so all those rakshasas fled before Vishnu the all-powerful; some were driven off and routed, while others were laid low upon the ground.

english translation

राक्षसानां सहस्राणि निहत्य मधुसूदनः । वारिजं पूरयामास तोयदं सुरराडिव ॥ 7-7-23 ॥

Having slain thousands of the rakshasas, the slayer of Madhu filled his conch, as the king of the gods fills a rain-cloud.

english translation

नारायणशरत्रस्तं शङ्खनादसुविह्वलम् । ययौ लङ्कामभिमुखं प्रभग्नं राक्षसं बलम् ॥ 7-7-24 ॥

Terrified by Narayana's arrows and utterly unnerved by the blast of his conch, the shattered rakshasa army fled toward Lanka.

प्रभग्ने राक्षसबले नारायणशराहते । सुमाली शरवर्षेण निववार रणे हरिम् ॥ 7-7-25 ॥

When the rakshasa army was broken, stricken by Narayana's arrows, Sumali withstood Hari in the battle with a downpour of arrows.
