दीयतां नगरी लङ्का पूर्वं रक्षोगणोषिता । मयात्र यदनुष्ठेयं तन्ममाचक्ष्व सुव्रत ॥ 7-11-36 ॥

Let the city of Lanka, formerly inhabited by the host of rakshasas, be given over. Tell me, O man of good vows, what I ought to do in this matter.

english translation

ब्रह्मर्षिस्त्वेवमुक्तो ऽसौ विश्रवा मुनिपुङ्गवः । प्राञ्जलिं धनदं प्राह शृणु पुत्र वचो मम ॥ 7-11-37 ॥

Thus addressed, that brahmin sage Vishrava, the foremost of munis, said to the bestower of wealth (Kubera), who stood with palms joined: "Hear my words, my son."

english translation

दशग्रीवो महाबाहुरुक्तवान्मम सन्निधौ । मया निर्भर्त्सितश्चासीद्बहुशोक्तः सुदुर्मतिः ॥ 7-11-38 ॥

"Dashagriva, the mighty-armed, spoke in my presence, and he, the very evil-minded one, was rebuked by me and admonished much."

english translation

स क्रोधेन मया चोक्तो ध्वंसते च पुनः पुनः । श्रेयो ऽभियुक्तं धर्म्यं च शृणु पुत्र वचो मम ॥ 7-11-39 ॥

"Though spoken to by me in anger, he yet goes to ruin again and again. Hear, my son, my words, which are conducive to your welfare and in accord with dharma.

english translation

वरप्रदानसम्मूढो मान्या ऽमान्यान् स दुर्मतिः । न वेत्ति मम शापाच्च प्रकृतिं दारुणां गतः ॥ 7-11-40 ॥

"That evil-minded one, deluded by the granting of the boon, does not distinguish the honorable from the dishonorable; and by my curse he has come to a cruel nature."
