उत्तानाधोमुखौ कार्यावग्रे वक्त्रस्य संस्थितौ । वडवानलसङ्ग्राममकराणां च दर्शने ॥ ३६॥
Two Tripatāka hands, one facing upwards and the other downwards, placed in front of the face, should be used to represent submarine fire, battle, and sea-monsters.
With the thumb extended forward, this hand should be used to represent the crescent moon. When turned away, it should be used by actors to depict a person's journey.
पथि चरणरचनरञ्जनरङ्गणकरणान्यधोमुखेनैव । ऊर्ध्वमुखेन तु कुर्यात् दष्टं शृङ्गं च लेख्यं च ॥ ४०॥
With its fingers pointing downward, this hand should be used to represent showing the way, decorating the feet, and crawling. With its fingers pointing upward, it should indicate biting, a horn, and writing.
