नतं समुन्नतं चैव प्रसारितविवर्तितो । तथापसृतमेवं तु पार्श्वयोः कर्म पञ्चधा ॥ २३६॥

The sides are of five kinds: Nata (bent), Samunnata (raised), Prasārita (extended), Vivartita (turned round), and Apasṛta (drawn away). These are the five actions of the sides.

english translation

nataM samunnataM caiva prasAritavivartito | tathApasRtamevaM tu pArzvayoH karma paJcadhA || 236||

कटिर्भवेत्तु व्याभुग्ना पार्श्वमाभुग्नमेव च । तथैवापसृतांसं च किञ्चित्पार्श्वनतं स्मृतम् ॥ २३७॥

sanskrit

The side may be slightly bent (Ābhugna), with the waist and side bent. Similarly, when the side is restored from the turned position, it is referred to as a slightly bent side (Ābhugna) in the Nata posture.

english translation

kaTirbhavettu vyAbhugnA pArzvamAbhugnameva ca | tathaivApasRtAMsaM ca kiJcitpArzvanataM smRtam || 237||

तस्यैव चापरं पार्श्वं विपरीतं तु युक्तितः । कटीपार्श्वभुजांसैश्चाभ्युन्नतैरुतं भवेत् ॥ २३८॥

sanskrit

The opposite side of the same is raised in relation to it, with the waist, side, and arms raised by the shoulders in an elevated position.

english translation

tasyaiva cAparaM pArzvaM viparItaM tu yuktitaH | kaTIpArzvabhujAMsaizcAbhyunnatairutaM bhavet || 238||

आयामनादुभयतः पाश्वयोः स्यात् प्रसारितम् । परिवर्तात्रिकस्यापि विवर्तितमिहेष्यते ॥ २३९॥

The sides are stretched outward in both directions, and the turning of the Trika (sacrum) is also considered as Vivartita in this context.

english translation

AyAmanAdubhayataH pAzvayoH syAt prasAritam | parivartAtrikasyApi vivartitamiheSyate || 239||

विवर्तितापनयनाद् भवेदपसृतं पुनः । पार्श्वलक्षणमित्युक्तं विनियोगं निबोधत ॥ २४०॥

sanskrit

When the turning (Vivartita) is reversed, it becomes Apasṛta (drawn away). This is the description of the side movement, and the application should be understood accordingly.

vivartitApanayanAd bhavedapasRtaM punaH | pArzvalakSaNamityuktaM viniyogaM nibodhata || 240||
