अथवान्यादृशं प्राप्य प्रयोगं कालमेव च । विपरीताश्रया हस्ताः प्रयोक्तव्या बुधैर्न वा ॥ १७६॥
When a different situation or time arises, hand gestures should be used in an opposite manner by wise persons, or not at all.
english translation
athavAnyAdRzaM prApya prayogaM kAlameva ca । viparItAzrayA hastAH prayoktavyA budhairna vA ॥ 176॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptविषण्णे मूर्च्छिते भीते जुगुप्साशोकपीडिते । ग्लाने स्वप्ने विहस्ते च निश्चेष्टे तन्द्रिते जडे ॥ १७७॥
In states of sadness, fainting, fear, disgust, sorrow, fatigue, dreaming, helplessness, drowsiness, inertness, and unconsciousness, hand gestures should not be used.

viSaNNe mUrcchite bhIte jugupsAzokapIDite । glAne svapne vihaste ca nizceSTe tandrite jaDe ॥ 177॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptव्याधिग्रस्ते जरार्ते च भयार्ते शीतविप्लुते । मत्ते प्रमत्ते चोन्मत्ते चिन्तायां तपसि स्थिते ॥ १७८॥
In states of illness, old age, fear, extreme cold, intoxication, madness, confusion, and during meditation or austerities, hand gestures should not be used.

vyAdhigraste jarArte ca bhayArte zItaviplute । matte pramatte conmatte cintAyAM tapasi sthite ॥ 178॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptहिमवर्षहते बद्धे वरिणाप्लवसंश्रिते । स्वप्नायिते च संभ्रान्ते नतसंस्फोटने तथा ॥ १७९॥
In situations of being struck by snow, bound, relying on water, in a dreamlike state, in confusion, or when prostrating, hand gestures should not be used.

himavarSahate baddhe variNAplavasaMzrite । svapnAyite ca saMbhrAnte natasaMsphoTane tathA ॥ 179॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptन हस्ताभिनयः कार्यः कार्यः सत्त्वस्य संग्रहः । तथा काकुविशेषश्च नानाभवरसान्वितः ॥ १८०॥
Hand gestures should not be used when the collection of essence (sattva) is required, or when there is a special role of the crow, or in states associated with various transformations.

na hastAbhinayaH kAryaH kAryaH sattvasya saMgrahaH । tathA kAkuvizeSazca nAnAbhavarasAnvitaH ॥ 180॥
