पूर्वरङ्गं महाभागा गदतो मे निबोधत । पादभागाः कलाश्चैव परिवर्तास्तथैव च ॥ ६॥

"O illustrious ones, listen as I explain the Purvaranga. It consists of segments, movements, and various transitions."

pUrvaraGgaM mahAbhAgA gadato me nibodhata | pAdabhAgAH kalAzcaiva parivartAstathaiva ca || 6||

यस्माद्रङ्गे प्रयोगोऽयं पूर्वमेव प्रयुज्यते । तस्मादयं पूर्वरङ्गो विज्ञेयो द्विजसत्तमाः ॥ ७॥

"Since this performance is conducted prior to the main enactment on the stage, it is to be understood as Purvaranga, O foremost among the Brahmins."

yasmAdraGge prayogo'yaM pUrvameva prayujyate | tasmAdayaM pUrvaraGgo vijJeyo dvijasattamAH || 7||

अस्याङ्गानि तु कार्याणि यथावदनुपूर्वशः । तन्त्रीभाण्डसमायोअगैः पाठ्ययोगकृतैस्तथा ॥ ८॥

The components of this (Purvaranga) are to be performed in due order, with stringed instruments, props, and those who are engaged in recitation as prescribed.

प्रत्याहारोऽवतरणं तथा ह्यारम्भ एव च । आश्रावणा वक्त्रपाणिस्तथा च परिघट्टना ॥ ९॥

The withdrawal (Pratyahara), the descent, the initiation, the opening of the mouth, the hand gesture, and the striking of the cymbals are also part of it.
