एवं ते मुनयः श्रुत्वा सर्वज्ञं भरतं ततः । पुनरूचुरिदं वाक्यं कुतूहलपुरोगमम् ॥ ६॥
Thus, upon hearing this, the sages, filled with curiosity, spoke again to the omniscient Bharata these words.
english translation
evaM te munayaH zrutvA sarvajJaM bharataM tataH । punarUcuridaM vAkyaM kutUhalapurogamam ॥ 6॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयस्त्वया गदितो ह्येष नाट्यवेदः पुरातनः । एकचित्तैः स चास्माभिः सम्यक् समुपधारितः ॥ ७॥
This ancient Nāṭyaveda, which has been spoken by you, has been properly understood by us, who are united in mind.
english translation
yastvayA gadito hyeSa nATyavedaH purAtanaH । ekacittaiH sa cAsmAbhiH samyak samupadhAritaH ॥ 7॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptएकश्च संशयोऽस्माकं तं नो व्याख्यातुमर्हसि । को वान्यो नाट्यवेदस्य निश्चयं वक्तुमर्हति ॥ ८॥
There is one doubt of ours, which you are fit to explain. Who else is capable of definitively speaking about the Nāṭyaveda?
english translation
ekazca saMzayo'smAkaM taM no vyAkhyAtumarhasi । ko vAnyo nATyavedasya nizcayaM vaktumarhati ॥ 8॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptन वयं परिहासेन न विरोधेन न चेर्ष्यया । पृच्छामो भगवन् नाट्यमुपदेशार्थमेव तु ॥ ९॥
We are not asking out of jest, rivalry, or envy. O Lord, we ask only to understand the teachings of drama.
english translation
na vayaM parihAsena na virodhena na cerSyayA । pRcchAmo bhagavan nATyamupadezArthameva tu ॥ 9॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअस्माभिश्च तदा नोक्तं कथाच्छेदो भवेदिति । इदानीं तूपशिक्षार्थं नाट्यगुह्यं निदर्शय ॥ १०॥
We did not speak earlier so as to avoid any interruption. Now, please demonstrate to us the hidden aspects of drama for our proper instruction.

asmAbhizca tadA noktaM kathAcchedo bhavediti । idAnIM tUpazikSArthaM nATyaguhyaM nidarzaya ॥ 10॥
