एवमेतन्मया दृष्टं पिण्डीबन्धनिमित्ततः । अधुना तु प्रवक्ष्यामि लक्षणं शृणुत द्विजाः ॥ ७१॥

english translation
वृत्तिदक्षिणचित्रेषु मार्गेषु विनियोजितम् । द्विविधं वर्धमानं स्यात्स्वप्रमाणविनिर्मितम् ॥ ७२॥
Performed in the three Mārgas, such as the Vṛtti, Dakṣiṇa and Citra, the Vardhamāna which is constructed according to its own measure, is of two kinds.

अतालं च सतालं च तत्प्रमाणं द्विजाः स्मृतम् । चतस्रः काण्डिकाश्चैव तावन्त्यासारितानि तु ॥ ७३॥
Its measure has two aspects: one with the Tāla and the other without the Tāla. There are four parts (kaṇḍikā) in all the Āsāritas.

ध्रुवकेण कलाभिस्तु कण्डिका देवकल्पिता । वर्धमानशरीरे तु क्रियते मार्गयोजना ॥ ७४॥
[Each] part in the Dhruvā is composed of Kalās by gods. The Mārgas are available (lit. joined) in the Vardhamāna.

आद्या नवकला तु स्यादष्टाभिस्तत्परा स्मृता । दश षट्च तथा चैव तृतीया कण्डिकेष्यते ॥ ७५॥
The first (part) consists of nine Kalās, the second is said to have eight; the third is reckoned as having sixteen Kalās, and so is the Khaṇḍikā (fourth).
