Natyashastra
आद्या नवकला तु स्यादष्टाभिस्तत्परा स्मृता । दश षट्च तथा चैव तृतीया कण्डिकेष्यते ॥ ७५॥
The first (part) consists of nine Kalās, the second is said to have eight; the third is reckoned as having sixteen Kalās, and so is the Khaṇḍikā (fourth).
english translation
AdyA navakalA tu syAdaSTAbhistatparA smRtA । daza SaTca tathA caiva tRtIyA kaNDikeSyate ॥ 75॥
