Ascending and descending should be performed by the wise according to the context. Ascending the stairs of a palace should be done with steps of the Atikrāntā Cārī.
A person should raise the body and foot, and place the foot on the stair; Likewise, descending should be done by gradually lowering the body and foot in a proper manner.
The gait in water should be proportionate to the depth of the water. When the water is shallow, the movement of the limbs is more pronounced, accompanied by the pulling of the hands and feet.
