पुनश्चिन्तान्विते चैव गतिः कार्या चतुष्कला । अस्वस्थकामिते चैव भये वित्रासिते तथा ॥ ३६॥

Again, in anxiety and restlessness, the gait should be of four Kalās, and likewise in fear and terror.

english translation

आवेगे चैव हर्षे च कार्ये यच्च त्वरान्वितम् । अनिष्टश्रवणे चैव क्षेपे चाद्भुतदर्शने ॥ ३७॥

In haste and joy, and in actions accompanied by speed, also on hearing bad news, and in anger or seeing something marvelous, the gait should be quick and lively.

english translation

अपि चात्यायिके कार्ये दुःखिते शत्रुमार्गणे । अपराद्धानुसरणे श्वापदानुगतौ तथा ॥ ३८॥

Also, in excessive action, when sorrowful, in battles with enemies, in pursuit of offenders, and in following a hound’s footsteps, the gait should be quick and intense.

english translation

एतेष्वेवं गतिं प्राज्ञो विकलां सम्प्रयोजयेत् । उत्तमानां गतिर्या तु न तां मध्येषु योजयेत् ॥ ३९॥

In these situations, the wise should adopt a vigorous gait; the gait of the superior should not be applied to the middling types.

english translation

या गतिर्मध्यमानां तु न तां नीचेषु योजयेत् । गतिः श‍ृङ्गारिणी कार्या स्वस्थकामितसम्भवा ॥ ४०॥

The gait of the middling types should not be applied to the inferior ones; the gait to be performed is one expressive of love, healthy and desirous.
