Manusmriti
प्रतिग्रहसमर्थोऽपि प्रसङ्गं तत्र वर्जयेत् । प्रतिग्रहेण ह्यस्याशु ब्राह्मं तेजः प्रशाम्यति ॥ १८६ ॥
Though (by his learning and sanctity) he may be entitled to accept presents, let him not attach himself (too much) to that (habit); for through his accepting (many) presents the divine light in him is soon extinguished.
english translation
pratigrahasamartho'pi prasaGgaM tatra varjayet । pratigraheNa hyasyAzu brAhmaM tejaH prazAmyati ॥ 186 ॥
