नश्यन्ति हव्यकव्यानि नराणामविजानताम् । भस्मीभूतेषु विप्रेषु मोहाद् दत्तानि दातृभिः ॥ ९७ ॥

sanskrit

The oblations to gods and manes, made by men ignorant (of the law of gifts), are lost, if the givers in their folly present (shares of them) to Brahmanas who are mere ashes.

english translation

nazyanti havyakavyAni narANAmavijAnatAm | bhasmIbhUteSu vipreSu mohAd dattAni dAtRbhiH || 97 ||
