अवगूर्य त्वब्दशतं सहस्रमभिहत्य च । जिघांसया ब्राह्मणस्य नरकं प्रतिपद्यते ॥ २०६ ॥

But he who, intending to hurt a Brahmana, has threatened (him with a stick and the like) shall remain in hell during a hundred years; he who (actually) struck him, during one thousand years.

english translation

avagUrya tvabdazataM sahasramabhihatya ca | jighAMsayA brAhmaNasya narakaM pratipadyate || 206 ||

शोणितं यावतः पांसून् सङ्गृह्णाति महीतले । तावन्त्यब्दसहस्राणि तत्कर्ता नरके वसेत् ॥ २०७ ॥

As many particles of dust as the blood of a Brahmana causes to coagulate, for so many thousand years shall the shedder of that (blood) remain in hell.

english translation

zoNitaM yAvataH pAMsUn saGgRhNAti mahItale | tAvantyabdasahasrANi tatkartA narake vaset || 207 ||

अवगूर्य चरेत् कृच्छ्रमतिकृच्छ्रं निपातने । कृच्छ्रातिकृच्छ्रौ कुर्वीत विप्रस्योत्पाद्य शोणितम् ॥ २०८ ॥

For threatening a Brahmana, (the offender) shall perform a Krikkhra, for striking him an Atikrikkhra, for shedding his blood a Krikkhra and an Atikrikkhra.

avagUrya caret kRcchramatikRcchraM nipAtane | kRcchrAtikRcchrau kurvIta viprasyotpAdya zoNitam || 208 ||

अनुक्तनिष्कृतीनां तु पापानामपनुत्तये । शक्तिं चावेक्ष्य पापं च प्रायश्चित्तं प्रकल्पयेत् ॥ २०९ ॥

For the expiation of offences for which no atonement has been prescribed, let him fix a penance after considering (the offender’s) strength and the (nature of the) offence.

english translation

anuktaniSkRtInAM tu pApAnAmapanuttaye | zaktiM cAvekSya pApaM ca prAyazcittaM prakalpayet || 209 ||

यैरभ्युपायैरेनांसि मानवो व्यपकर्षति । तान् वोऽभ्युपायान् वक्ष्यामि देवर्षिपितृसेवितान् ॥ २१० ॥

I will (now) describe to you those means, adopted by the gods, the sages, and the manes, through which a man may remove his sins.

yairabhyupAyairenAMsi mAnavo vyapakarSati | tAn vo'bhyupAyAn vakSyAmi devarSipitRsevitAn || 210 ||
