‘And King Duryodhana, hearing that the magnanimous and mighty hero was on his way, hastened forward to meet him and paid him honours, O best of the Bharata race.’ ।। 5-8-6 ।।
‘For Shalya’s reception, he caused splendidly adorned pavilions to be erected at various beautiful sites, each exquisitely prepared and designed for delight.’ ।। 5-8-7 ।।
‘Skilled artists and entertainers were stationed there to gladden the hearts of the guests. Those stately pavilions were adorned with fragrant garlands and filled with the choicest viands and meats, the finest drinks, and sweet confections. There were wells and tanks of varied forms, designed to refresh the heart, along with spacious chambers, all crafted to offer every comfort and splendour.’ ।। 5-8-8 ।।
‘There, greeted with pleasures and comforts of surpassing excellence — delights worthy of beings greater than mortals — he deemed himself exalted beyond measure and thought even Indra, the mighty lord of the heavens, inferior to himself.’ ।। 5-8-9 ।।
पप्रच्छ स ततः परेष्यान परहृष्टः कषत्रियर्षभः युधिष्ठिरस्य पुरुषाः के नु चक्रुः सभा इमाः आनीयन्तां सभा काराः परदेयार्हा हि मे मताः ।। ५-८-१० ।।
‘And that foremost of Kshatriyas, well-pleased and delighted, addressed the attendants, saying: 'Where are those men of Yudhishthira who have prepared these splendid places of refreshment? Let the builders of these pavilions be brought before me, for I deem them worthy of rich rewards. I must honour them suitably, if it so pleases the son of Kunti!'’ ।। 5-8-10 ।।
papraccha sa tataH pareSyAna parahRSTaH kaSatriyarSabhaH yudhiSThirasya puruSAH ke nu cakruH sabhA imAH AnIyantAM sabhA kArAH paradeyArhA hi me matAH || 5-8-10 ||
