‘Duryodhana, who had thus far remained concealed, stepped forth and revealed himself before his maternal uncle. The king of the Madras, seeing him, at once understood that it was Duryodhana who had taken such pains to honour him. Overjoyed, Shalya embraced Duryodhana warmly and said with affection: ‘Ask of me whatever you desire, and consider it granted.’’ ।। 5-8-11 ।।
सत्यवाग भव कल्याण वरॊ वै मम दीयताम सर्वसेना परणेता मे भवान भवितुम अर्हति ।। ५-८-१२ ।।
‘Then Duryodhana said, ‘O auspicious one, let thy word be fulfilled — grant me this boon: be thou the supreme commander of my entire host.’’ ।। 5-8-12 ।।
कृतम इत्य अब्रवीच छल्यः किम अन्यत करियताम इति कृतम इत्य एव गान्धारिः परत्युवाच पुनः पुनः ।। ५-८-१३ ।।
‘And hearing this, Shalya said, ‘So be it! What more remains to be done?’ And the son of Gandhari, exultant, repeated again and again, ‘It is done! It is accomplished!’ ।। 5-8-13 ।।
स तथा शल्यम आमन्त्र्य पुनर आयात सवकं पुरम शल्यॊ जगाम कौन्तेयान आख्यातुं कर्म तस्य तत ।। ५-८-१४ ।।
‘Thus, having taken Shalya’s pledge and bidding him farewell, Duryodhana returned to his own city. And Salya went to inform the sons of Kunti of that proceeding of his.’ ।। 5-8-14 ।।
