‘Skilled as they were in the game of dice, these persons challenged the magnanimous Yudhishthira, inexperienced in play, and by trusting them, he was defeated. Can such persons be said to have won the game righteously?’ ।। 5-3-6 ।।
यदि कुन्तीसुतं गेहे करीडन्तं भरातृभिः सह अभिगम्य जयेयुस ते तत तेषां धर्मतॊ भवेत ।। ५-३-७ ।।
‘Had they come to Yudhishthira while he was playing here with his brothers and defeated him in that setting, then their victory would have been just and righteous.’ ।। 5-3-7 ।।
समाहूय तु राजानं कषत्रधर्मरतं सदा निकृत्या जितवन्तस ते किं नु तेषां परं शुभम ।। ५-३-८ ।।
‘But they challenged Yudhishthira, who was bound by conscience to uphold the rules of the Kshatriya code, and yet they won through trickery. What righteousness, then, is there in their conduct?’ ।। 5-3-8 ।।
‘And how can Yudhishthira, having faithfully observed the stipulations of the game, now be expected to humble himself, when he has completed his period of exile and is fully entitled to his ancestral throne?’ ।। 5-3-9 ।।
