[सात्यकि] यादृशः पुरुषस्यात्मा तादृशं संप्रभाषते यथा रूपॊ ऽनतरात्मा ते तथारूपं परभाषसे ॥ ५-३-१ ॥
‘Satyaki said, "As a man's heart is, so does he speak! You speak in full accordance with the nature of your own heart."’ ॥ 5-3-1 ॥
english translation
[sAtyaki] yAdRzaH puruSasyAtmA tAdRzaM saMprabhASate yathA rUpò 'natarAtmA te tathArUpaM parabhASase ॥ 5-3-1 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसन्ति वै पुरुषाः शूराः सन्ति कापुरुषास तथा उभाव एतौ दृढौ पक्षौ दृश्येते पुरुषान परति ॥ ५-३-२ ॥
‘There are the brave and there are the cowardly—men may clearly be divided into these two classes.’ ॥ 5-3-2 ॥

santi vai puruSAH zUrAH santi kApuruSAsa tathA ubhAva etau dRDhau pakSau dRzyete puruSAna parati ॥ 5-3-2 ॥

‘Just as a single great tree may bear two boughs, one yielding fruit and the other barren, so too from the same line of progenitors may spring men who are weak and men who are endowed with great strength.’ ॥ 5-3-3 ॥

ekasminna eva jAyete kule kalIba mahArathau phalAphalavatI zAkhe yathaikasmina vanaspatau ॥ 5-3-3 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptनाभ्यसूयामि ते वाक्यं बरुवतॊ लाङ्गलध्वज ये तु शृण्वन्ति ते वाक्यं तान असूयामि माधव ॥ ५-३-४ ॥
‘O thou who bearest the sign of a plough on thy banner, I do not, in truth, condemn the words you have spoken; rather, I condemn those, O son of Madhu, who heed them!’ ॥ 5-3-4 ॥

nAbhyasUyAmi te vAkyaM baruvatò lAGgaladhvaja ye tu zRNvanti te vAkyaM tAna asUyAmi mAdhava ॥ 5-3-4 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकथं हि धर्मराजस्य दॊषम अल्पम अपि बरुवन लभते परिषन्मध्ये वयाहर्तुम अकुतॊभयः ॥ ५-३-५ ॥
‘How, indeed, can one, who shamelessly dares to attach even the slightest blame to the virtuous Yudhishthira, be allowed to speak at all in the assembly?’ ॥ 5-3-5 ॥

kathaM hi dharmarAjasya dòSama alpama api baruvana labhate pariSanmadhye vayAhartuma akutòbhayaH ॥ 5-3-5 ॥
