स दीव्यमानः परतिदेवनेन; अक्षेषु नित्यं सुपराङ्मुखेषु संरम्भमाणॊ विजितः परसह्य; तत्रापराधः शकुनेर न कश चित ।। ५-२-११ ।।

‘Though the dice continually went against him, he persisted in playing with Sakuni, and in this contest he suffered a crushing defeat. For this, no blame can attach to Sakuni.’ ।। 5-2-11 ।।

sa dIvyamAnaH paratidevanena; akSeSu nityaM suparAGmukheSu saMrambhamANò vijitaH parasahya; tatrAparAdhaH zakunera na kaza cita || 5-2-11 ||

तस्मात परणम्यैव वचॊ बरवीतु; वैचित्रवीर्यं बहु साम युक्तम तथा हि शक्यॊ धृतराष्ट्र पुत्रः; सवार्थे नियॊक्तुं पुरुषेण तेन ।। ५-२-१२ ।।

‘Let the messenger speak with humility, using words intended to conciliate the son of Vichitravirya, so as to bring Dhritarashtra’s son to his own views. Seek not war with the Kurus; address Duryodhana only in a conciliatory tone. Victory may elude by force of arms, but it may be achieved by gentle persuasion, and through this means, it may be secured enduringly.’ ।। 5-2-12 ।।

tasmAta paraNamyaiva vacò baravItu; vaicitravIryaM bahu sAma yuktama tathA hi zakyò dhRtarASTra putraH; savArthe niyòktuM puruSeNa tena || 5-2-12 ||

‘Vaisampayana continued, "While that valiant scion of Madhu’s race was still speaking, the gallant son of the Sini lineage suddenly rose and, in indignation, reproached the former with these words."’ ।। 5-2-13 ।।
