शक्तैर विजेतुं तरसा महीं च; सत्ये सथितैस तच चरितं यथावत पाण्डॊः सुतैस तद वरतम उग्ररूपं; वर्षाणि षट सप्त च भारताग्र्यैः ॥ ५-१-११ ॥
‘Though fully capable of conquering the earth by force, the sons of Pandu remained steadfast in their pledged faith. Accordingly, for six and seven years, these incomparable men endured the harsh task imposed upon them.’ ॥ 5-1-11 ॥

zaktaira vijetuM tarasA mahIM ca; satye sathitaisa taca caritaM yathAvata pANDòH sutaisa tada varatama ugrarUpaM; varSANi SaTa sapta ca bhAratAgryaiH ॥ 5-1-11 ॥

‘And this final, thirteenth year proved exceedingly difficult for them. Yet, unrecognized by anyone, they endured it, as you know, bearing unbearable hardships of every kind. This is now known to you all: these illustrious men spent the thirteenth year performing menial service for others.’ ॥ 5-1-12 ॥

‘Given this, it is now for you to consider what course of action will be for the good of both Yudhishthira and Duryodhana, what will be consistent with righteousness and propriety regarding the Kurus and the Pandavas, and what will gain the approval of all.’ ॥ 5-1-13 ॥

evaMgate dharmasutasya rAjJò; duryòdhanasyApi ca yada dhitaM sayAta taca cintayadhvaM kurupANDavAnAM; dharmyaM ca yuktaM ca yazaH karaM ca ॥ 5-1-13 ॥

‘The virtuous King Yudhishthira would never covet even the celestial kingdom by unrighteous means. Yet, righteously, he would accept the rule of even a single village.’ ॥ 5-1-14 ॥

adharmayuktaM ca na kAmayeta; rAjyaM surANAma api dharmarAjaH dharmArthayuktaM ca mahIpatitvaM; garAme 'pi kasmiMza cida ayaM bubhUSeta ॥ 5-1-14 ॥

‘All the assembled kings know how the sons of Dhritarashtra deceitfully robbed him of his paternal kingdom and how he has endured a life of unendurable hardships.’ ॥ 5-1-15 ॥
