तयॊः परश्न विवादॊ ऽभूत परह्लादं ताव अपृच्छताम जयायान क आवयॊर एकः परश्नं परब्रूहि मा मृषा ।। २-६१-६१ ।।

sanskrit

'After their quarrel, they appointed Prahlada as the arbitrator to decide between them. They asked him, 'Which of us is superior? Please answer truthfully and do not speak falsely.'' ।। 2-61-61 ।।

english translation

tayòH parazna vivAdò 'bhUta parahlAdaM tAva apRcchatAma jayAyAna ka Avayòra ekaH paraznaM parabrUhi mA mRSA || 2-61-61 ||

स वै विवदनाद भीतः सुधन्वानं वयलॊकयत तं सुधन्वाब्रवीत करुद्धॊ बरह्मदण्ड इव जवलन ।। २-६१-६२ ।।

sanskrit

'Alarmed by the quarrel, Prahlada turned his gaze toward Sudhanwan. In his fury, Sudhanwan, blazing like the mace of Yama, said to him;' ।। 2-61-62 ।।

english translation

sa vai vivadanAda bhItaH sudhanvAnaM vayalòkayata taM sudhanvAbravIta karuddhò barahmadaNDa iva javalana || 2-61-62 ||

यदि वै वक्ष्यसि मृषा परह्लादाथ न वक्ष्यसि शतधा ते शिरॊ वज्री वज्रेण परहरिष्यति ।। २-६१-६३ ।।

sanskrit

'If you answer falsely or fail to respond at all, then the wielder of the thunderbolt shall split your head into a hundred pieces with his mighty bolt.' ।। 2-61-63 ।।

english translation

yadi vai vakSyasi mRSA parahlAdAtha na vakSyasi zatadhA te zirò vajrI vajreNa parahariSyati || 2-61-63 ||

सुधन्वना तथॊक्तः सन वयथितॊ ऽशवत्थ पर्णवत जगाम कश्यपं दैत्यः परिप्रष्टुं महौजसम ।। २-६१-६४ ।।

sanskrit

'Thus confronted by Sudhanwan and trembling like a leaf of the sacred fig tree, the Daitya Prahlada went to the mighty sage Kashyapa for counsel.' ।। 2-61-64 ।।

sudhanvanA tathòktaH sana vayathitò 'zavattha parNavata jagAma kazyapaM daityaH paripraSTuM mahaujasama || 2-61-64 ||

[परह] तवं वै धर्मस्य विज्ञाता दैवस्येहासुरस्य च बराह्मणस्य महाप्राज्ञ धर्मकृच्छ्रम इदं शृणु ।। २-६१-६५ ।।

sanskrit

'Prahlada said: "O illustrious and exalted sage, you are fully versed in the rules of morality that guide the gods, the Asuras, and the Brahmanas alike. However, a difficult situation regarding duty has arisen here."' ।। 2-61-65 ।।

english translation

[paraha] tavaM vai dharmasya vijJAtA daivasyehAsurasya ca barAhmaNasya mahAprAjJa dharmakRcchrama idaM zRNu || 2-61-65 ||
