[व] ततः परवेशनं चक्रे तस्यां राजा युधिष्ठिरः अयुतं भॊजयाम आस बराह्मणानां नराधिपः ॥ २-४-१ ॥

'Vaisampayana said, "Then, the foremost among men, King Yudhishthira, entered the grand assembly hall after providing a feast to ten thousand Brahmins."' ॥ 2-4-1 ॥

english translation

[va] tataH paravezanaM cakre tasyAM rAjA yudhiSThiraH ayutaM bhòjayAma Asa barAhmaNAnAM narAdhipaH ॥ 2-4-1 ॥

घृतपायसेन मधुना भक्ष्यैर मूलफलैस तथा अहतैश चैव वासॊभिर माल्यैर उच्चावचैर अपि ॥ २-४-२ ॥

'With ghee, milk, honey, various foods, fruits, and also with garments, garlands, and lofty and lowly beds.' ॥ 2-4-2 ॥

english translation

ghRtapAyasena madhunA bhakSyaira mUlaphalaisa tathA ahataiza caiva vAsòbhira mAlyaira uccAvacaira api ॥ 2-4-2 ॥

ददौ तेभ्यः सहस्राणि गवां परत्येकशः परभुः पुण्याहघॊषस तत्रासीद दिवस्पृग इव भारत ॥ २-४-३ ॥

'The illustrious king bestowed upon each of them a thousand cows, O Bharata, and there arose there a blessed sound like that of Indra's festival in the firmament, O Bharata.' ॥ 2-4-3 ॥

dadau tebhyaH sahasrANi gavAM paratyekazaH parabhuH puNyAhaghòSasa tatrAsIda divaspRga iva bhArata ॥ 2-4-3 ॥

वादित्रैर विविधैर गीतैर गन्धैर उच्चावचैर अपि पूजयित्वा कुरुश्रेष्ठॊ दैवतानि निवेश्य च ॥ २-४-४ ॥

'The king also gifted each of those Brahmins a thousand cows. And, O Bharata, the joyful exclamations of the satisfied Brahmins, 'What an auspicious day is this!' resounded so loudly that it seemed to reach the very heavens.' ॥ 2-4-4 ॥

vAditraira vividhaira gItaira gandhaira uccAvacaira api pUjayitvA kuruzreSThò daivatAni nivezya ca ॥ 2-4-4 ॥

तत्र मल्ला नटा झल्लाः सूता वैतालिकास तथा उपतस्थुर महात्मानं सप्तरात्रं युधिष्ठिरम ॥ २-४-५ ॥

'As the Kuru king entered the grand assembly hall, having also honored the gods with diverse music and various exquisite and costly perfumes, the athletes, performers, prize-fighters, bards, and praise singers began to entertain the illustrious son of Dharma by showcasing their talents.' ॥ 2-4-5 ॥

tatra mallA naTA jhallAH sUtA vaitAlikAsa tathA upatasthura mahAtmAnaM saptarAtraM yudhiSThirama ॥ 2-4-5 ॥
