तस्मिन धर्मविदां शरेष्ठॊ धर्मराजस्य धीमतः महाध्वरे महाबुद्धिस तस्थौ स बहुमानतः ।। २-३३-२१ ।।

sanskrit

'At that great sacrifice of the wise Dharmaraja, The best among the knowers of dharma, the great-minded one, Stood with great respect.' ।। 2-33-21 ।।

english translation

tasmina dharmavidAM zareSThò dharmarAjasya dhImataH mahAdhvare mahAbuddhisa tasthau sa bahumAnataH || 2-33-21 ||

'Then Bhishma, addressing King Yudhishthira the just, said, "O Bharata, let the Arghya (offering of respect) be given to each of the kings according to their due."' ।। 2-33-22 ।।

tatò bhISmò 'baravIda rAjana dharmarAjaM yudhiSThirama kariyatAma arhaNaM rAjJAM yathArhama iti bhArata || 2-33-22 ||

'Listen, O Yudhishthira, it has been said that the six who deserve Arghya are the preceptor, the sacrificial priest, the relative, the Snataka, the friend, and the king.' ।। 2-33-23 ।।

AcAryama RtvijaM caiva saMyuktaM ca yudhiSThira sanAtakaM ca pariyaM cAhuH SaDa arghyArhAna nRpaM tathA || 2-33-23 ||

एतान अर्हान अभिगतान आहुः संवत्सरॊषितान त इमे कालपूगस्य महतॊ ऽसमान उपागताः ।। २-३३-२४ ।।

'The wise have stated that anyone who resides with one for a full year deserves to be honored with Arghya. These kings, having stayed with us for a considerable time, are therefore worthy of such respect.' ।। 2-33-24 ।।

etAna arhAna abhigatAna AhuH saMvatsaròSitAna ta ime kAlapUgasya mahatò 'samAna upAgatAH || 2-33-24 ||

'Therefore, O king, let Arghyas be procured to be offered unto each of them. And let an Arghya be presented first of all unto him among those present who is the foremost.' ।। 2-33-25 ।।
