उपपन्नं महाबाहॊ तवयि पाण्डवनन्दन पाकशासनदायादे वीर्यम आहवशॊभिनि ॥ २-२३-२१ ॥
'It is fitting in you, O mighty-armed one, O joy of the Pandavas, O heir of Pakashasana (Indra), whose valor shines in battle.' ॥ 2-23-21 ॥
english translation
अहं सखा सुरेन्द्रस्य शक्राद अनवमॊ रणे न च शक्नॊमि ते तात सथातुं परमुखतॊ युधि ॥ २-२३-२२ ॥
'I am a friend of the lord of gods, not inferior to Shakra (Indra) in battle, Yet, O dear one, I cannot stand before you in combat.' ॥ 2-23-22 ॥

किम ईप्सितं पाण्डवेय बरूहि किं करवाणि ते यद वक्ष्यसि महाबाहॊ तत करिष्यामि पुत्रक ॥ २-२३-२३ ॥
'What do you desire, O descendant of Pandu? Tell me what I should do for you. Whatever you say, O mighty-armed one, I will do, O son of Kunti.' ॥ 2-23-23 ॥

[अर] कुरूणाम ऋषभॊ राजा धर्मपुत्रॊ युधिष्ठिरः तस्य पार्थिवताम ईप्से करस तस्मै परदीयताम ॥ २-२३-२४ ॥
'I, Arjuna, speak on behalf of Yudhishthira, the foremost of the Kuru dynasty and son of Dharma," declared the warrior. "It is his sovereignty we seek to establish. Therefore, I request that you pay tribute to him as your overlord."' ॥ 2-23-24 ॥

भवान पितृसखा चैव परीयमाणॊ मयापि च ततॊ नाज्ञापयामि तवां परीतिपूर्वं परदीयताम ॥ २-२३-२५ ॥
'You are a friend of my father and cherished by me as well. Therefore, I do not command you but ask you with affection to grant it.' ॥ 2-23-25 ॥
