एकान्ते जनरहिते शुद्धे देशे सुखासने भूत्वा। प्रणिपत्य स्वाचार्यं विघ्नेशं च ग्रहान् सर्वान्॥१॥
The astrologer should, in a clean, lonely place, where there is no movement of people, comfortably be seated and salute his preceptor, Ganesa and all the nine planets.

मौनी मान्यमतिः सन् सूर्याभिमुखोऽभिविश्य दैवज्ञः। अथ शकुनादीन् सम्यक्परीक्ष्य यत्नाच्च सिद्धसेनोक्तान्॥२॥
He should maintain silence and have lofty notions. H e should face the Sun god. He should note all the omens as instructed by Siddhasena.

शस्त्राभिघातकलहप्रपातदुःखानि दुर्निमित्ताद्याः। जायन्ते गणितादौ मरणवियोगार्थनाशसूचनदाः॥३॥
A weapon's hit, quarrel, fall, and cry, or grief are considered ominous. Astrological calculations made at that time portend death, separation and loss of wealth.

कृकलासोरगगोधाकपालनग्नादिदर्शनं नेष्टम्। तेषां कथाप्रलापैरनर्थमायान्तमीरयेन्न्नम्॥४॥
A snake, a camelion, an alligator, a skull of a naked person are all evil if sighted. A mention about these will indicate evil and danger.

वामे रुतं तु गौल्याः क्षुतं च वामेतरस्थले न शुभे। जम्बुकमहिषपशूनां स्वरश्च तद्वत् समीपतो मृत्युः॥५॥
A cry of the lizard in the left, and a sneezing on the right side are inauspicious. So also are the sounds (howling) of a jackal, buffalo or a cow very near as they portend death.
