श्रुत्वा धर्मं विजानाति श्रुत्वा त्यजति दुर्मतिम् । श्रुत्वा ज्ञानमवाप्नोति श्रुत्वा मोक्षमवाप्नुयात्॥१॥
Man knows religion by listening to the scriptures, by listening to the scriptures he gives up his foolishness, by listening to the scriptures he gets knowledge and by getting knowledge he attains salvation.

मनुष्य शास्त्र को सुनकर धर्म को जानता है, शटर सुनकर दुर्बुद्धि को छोड़ता है, शास्त्र सुनकर ज्ञान पाता है तथा ज्ञान प्राप्त करके मोक्ष को प्राप्त करता है।

पक्षिणः काकश्चण्डालः पशूनां चैव कुक्कुरः । मुनीनां पापश्चण्डालः सर्वचाण्डालनिन्दकः ॥२॥
The crow is the lowest among birds. Dog is the lowest among animals. The ascetic who commits sins is worthy of hatred, but the person who criticizes others is a real Chandal.

पक्षियों में कौवा नीच है। पशुओं में कुत्ता नीच है। जो तपस्वी पाप करता है वो घृणा के योग्य है परन्तु जो मनुष्य दूसरो की निंदा करता है वह साक्षात चांडाल है।

भस्मना शुद्धयते कास्यं ताम्रमम्लेन शुद्धयति । रजसा शुद्धयते नारी नदी वेगेन शुद्ध्यति ॥३II
A bronze vessel is purified by rubbing with ashes, a copper vessel is purified by tamarind or sour, women are purified by menstruation and a river is purified by the speed of the current.

कांसे का पात्र राख के घिसने से शुद्ध होता है, ताम्बे का पात्र इमली या खटाई से शुद्ध होता है, स्त्रियां रजस्वला होने से शुद्ध होती हैं तथा नदी धारा के वेग से शुद्ध होती हैं।

Kings, Brahmins and ascetic yogis get respect when they travel. But a woman gets corrupted by travelling.

राजा, ब्राह्मण तथा तपस्वी योगी भ्रमण करने पर आदर पाते हैं। परन्तु स्त्री भ्रमण करने से भ्रष्ट हो जाती है ।

यस्यार्थस्तस्य मित्राणि यस्यार्थास्तस्य बान्धवाः । यस्यार्थाः स पुमाल्लोके यस्यार्थाः स च पण्डितः ॥५II
A rich person has many friends. He also has many relatives. Only the rich man is called a man and only the rich man is honored by being called a Pandit.

धनवान व्यक्ति के कई मित्र होते है. उसके कई सम्बन्धी भी होते है। धनवान को ही आदमी कहा जाता है और धनवान को ही पंडित कह कर सम्मानित किया जाता है।
