If sneha is for the purpose of samshamana (pacification of dosha internally), it should be taken at the time of meals and if meant for shuddhi (purification) it should be given when food consumed in the previous night has been digested.

[Features according to bowel habits] Individuals with soft bowel movement require a maximum dose of three days of acchapana (sneha alone) while those suffering from krura koshtha (hard bowel) require the seven-day long (maximum) dose regimen.
