न स्नेह्या वर्तमानेषु न नस्तो बस्तिकर्मसु| स्नेहपानात् प्रजायन्ते तेषां रोगाः सुदारुणाः ||५६||
hose who are exhausted by the use of sneha, those having alcohol intoxication, those undergoing nasya therapy (nasal administration of drugs) or basti (medicated enema) should not consume sneha. Oleation in such patients may cause serious ailments.
[Signs of inadequate, proper and excess oleation] Dose of sneha: Dose is divided into maximum, moderate and minimum based upon the time taken for it to get digested as follows: 1. Indication oleation: Hard faeces ; Proper oleation: Proper movement of vata downwards; Excess oleation: Pallor; 2. Indication oleation: Dry faeces; Proper oleation: Increased digestive power; Excess oleation: Heaviness in body;
3. Indication oleation: Flatus not moving easily and softly; Proper oleation: Lubricated faeces which are soft and not well formed; Excess oleation: Lassitude;
[Regimen before sneha consumption] On the day before administration of sneha, one should take warm, liquid diet in proper quantity. The food should not increase secretions, possess unctuousness or material with opposing properties.
