अथातः पूर्वरूपीयमिन्द्रियं व्याख्यास्यामः ॥१॥
Now we shall expound the chapter "Purvarupeeyam Indriyam "(Predicting prognosis of diseases by prodromal symptoms).

athAtaH pUrvarUpIyamindriyaM vyAkhyAsyAmaH ॥1॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptइति ह स्माह भगवानात्रेयः ॥२॥
Thus said Lord Atreya. ॥ Note: This chapter deals with of premonitory symptoms related to signs of death.॥

iti ha smAha bhagavAnAtreyaH ॥2॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपूर्वरूपाण्यसाध्यानां विकाराणां पृथक् पृथक्। भिन्नाभिन्नानि वक्ष्यामो भिषजां ज्ञानवृद्धये ॥३॥
॥ Incurable prodromal signs of Jwara leading to death॥ For enhancing the knowledge of physicians, we will distinctly explain the general and fatal prodromal symptoms of diseases.

pUrvarUpANyasAdhyAnAM vikArANAM pRthak pRthak। bhinnAbhinnAni vakSyAmo bhiSajAM jJAnavRddhaye ॥3॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपूर्वरूपाणि सर्वाणि ज्वरोक्तान्यतिमात्रया। यं विशन्ति विशत्येनं मृत्युर्ज्वरपुरःसरः ॥४॥
If all prodromal symptoms of jwara manifests in severe degree, the person will die.

pUrvarUpANi sarvANi jvaroktAnyatimAtrayA। yaM vizanti vizatyenaM mRtyurjvarapuraHsaraH ॥4॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअन्यस्यापि च रोगस्य पूर्वरूपाणि यं नरम्। विशन्त्यनेन कल्पेन तस्यापि मरणं ध्रुवम् ॥५॥
If prodromal symptoms of any other disease also appear in the same way as described above, death of the patient is certain.

anyasyApi ca rogasya pUrvarUpANi yaM naram। vizantyanena kalpena tasyApi maraNaM dhruvam ॥5॥
