यस्तं बिभर्ति मनुजाधिपतिर्न तस्य दोषा भवन्ति विषरोगकृताः कदा चित् । राष्ट्रे च नित्यं अभिवर्षति तस्य देवः शत्रूंश्च नाशयति तस्य मणेः प्रभावात् ॥ ८२-०६ ॥

A king who wears such a gem will never suffer from the attacks of poison and disease. There will be rainfall in his country every day in the year and the king’s enemies will meet with ruin—all this through the virtues of the gem.

english translation

yastaM bibharti manujAdhipatirna tasya doSA bhavanti viSarogakRtAH kadA cit । rASTre ca nityaM abhivarSati tasya devaH zatrUMzca nAzayati tasya maNeH prabhAvAt ॥ 82-06 ॥

षड्विंशतिः सहस्राण्येकस्य मणेः पलप्रमाणस्य । कर्षत्रयस्य विंशतिरुपदिष्टा पद्मरागस्य ॥ ८२-०७ ॥

The price of a ruby (padmarāga) weighing a Pala is 26,000 Kārṣāpaṇas, and the price of a ruby weighing three Karṣas ॥ ¾ of a pala॥ is 20,000 Kārṣāpaṇas.

SaDviMzatiH sahasrANyekasya maNeH palapramANasya । karSatrayasya viMzatirupadiSTA padmarAgasya ॥ 82-07 ॥

अर्धपलस्य द्वादश कर्षस्य एकस्य षट्सहस्राणि । यच्चाष्टमाषकधृतं तस्य सहस्रत्रयं मूल्यम् ॥ ८२-०८ ॥

If the weight be two Karṣas (½ Pala) the price is 12,000 Kārṣāpaṇas; if the weight be a Karṣa, the price is 6,000 Kārṣāpaṇas, and if the weight be 8 Māṣas, the price is 3,000 Kārṣāpaṇas.

ardhapalasya dvAdaza karSasya ekasya SaTsahasrANi । yaccASTamASakadhRtaM tasya sahasratrayaM mUlyam ॥ 82-08 ॥

माषकचतुष्टयं दशशतक्रयं द्वौ तु पञ्चशतमूल्यौ । परिकल्प्यं अन्तराले मूल्यं हीनाधिकगुणानाम् ॥ ८२-०९ ॥

If the weight be 4 Māṣas, the price is 1,000 Kārṣāpaṇas, and if it be 2 Māṣas, the price is 500 Kārṣāpaṇas. For rubies of intermediate weight, the price shall be ascertained by proportion. The price of rubies which fall a little short of being superior rubies is as follows:

वर्णन्यूनस्यार्धं तेजोहीनस्य मूल्यं अष्टांशम् । अल्पगुणो बहुदोषो मूल्यात्प्राप्नोति विंशांशम् ॥ ८२-१० ॥

If the fault be a defect in colour, the price shall be reduced to one-half; if the gem be not bright and glossy, the price shall be reduced to one-eighth, and if the gem possess very few good qualities but many faults, the price shall be reduced to one-twentieth.
