श्रीसर्जगुडनखैस्ते धूपयितव्याः क्रमान्न पिण्डस्थैः । बोधः कस्तूरिकया देयः कर्पूरसंयुतया ॥ ७७-१६ ॥

The mixtures shall be exposed first to the smoke of Śrīvatsa, secondly, to that of Sarja, thirdly, to that of Guḍa, and lastly to that of Nakha. Add to the mixture both camphor and musk.

अत्र सहस्रचतुष्टयं अन्यानि च सप्ततिसहस्राणि । लक्षं शतानि सप्त विंशतियुक्तानि गन्धानाम् ॥ ७७-१७ ॥

The process gives us 174720 (4000+70000+100000+720) different varieties of perfumes.

एकैकं एकभागं द्वित्रिचतुर्भागिकैर्युतं द्रव्यैः । षड्गन्धकरं तद्वद्द्वित्रिचतुर्भागिकं कुरुते ॥ ७७-१८ ॥

One part of a substance can be mixed with 2, 3 or 4 parts of three other substances in 6 ways. Similarly, 2, 3, or 4 parts of the same substance can be mixed respectively with 1, 3, 4,–1, 2, 4,–1, 2, 3 parts of the 3 other substances each in 6 ways.

द्रव्यचतुष्टययोगाद्गन्धचतुर्विंशतिर्यथाएकस्य । एवं शेषाणां अपि षण्णवतिः सर्वपिण्डो अत्र ॥ ७७-१९ ॥

Thus beginning with a single substance we get 24 varieties of perfumes; beginning with each of the 3 other substances we shall get 72 varieties; or 96 varieties in all.
