मृगास्तु ह्रस्वाधरवालमेढ्रास् तन्वङ्घ्रि कण्ठद्विजहस्तकर्णाः । स्थूलईक्षणाश्चैति यथाउक्तचिह्नैः सङ्कीर्णनागा व्यतिमिश्रचिह्नाः ॥ ६७-०३ ॥
The elephant whose lips, tail and genital organ are short, whose legs, neck, tusks, trunk and the ears are small and whose eyes are large, is known as Mṛga. The elephant (hasti) which possesses the three sets of features above referred to, is known as Saṅkīrna.
