वृक्षं प्रभाते सलिलेन सिक्त्वा पूर्वोत्तरस्यां दिशि सन्निकृत्य । मध्वाज्यदिग्धेन कुठारकेण प्रदक्षिणं शेषं अतो निहन्यात् ॥ ५९-१२ ॥
Early next morning water shall be poured over the root of the tree; the axe shall be rubbed over with honey and ghee, and the tree shall first be cut on the north-eastern side, and the other parts shall be cut round from left to right.
