कृत्वा प्रभूतं सलिलं आरामान्विनिवेश्य च । देवताआयतनं कुर्याद्यशोधर्माभिवृद्धये ॥ ५६-०१ ॥

After procuring an abundant supply of water and forming gardens round it. there shall be erected on the spot temples (prāsāda) for Devas for the increase of one’s fame and virtue.

english translation

kRtvA prabhUtaM salilaM ArAmAnvinivezya ca । devatAAyatanaM kuryAdyazodharmAbhivRddhaye ॥ 56-01 ॥

इष्टापूर्तेन लभ्यन्ते ये लोकास्तान्बुभूषता । देवानां आलयः कार्यो द्वयं अपि अत्र दृश्यते ॥ ५६-०२ ॥

The person who desires to go to worlds to which go persons who perform sacrificial fire ceremonies and dig water tanks, shall erect temples for the Devas. He prospers both in this world and in the world above.

english translation

iSTApUrtena labhyante ye lokAstAnbubhUSatA । devAnAM AlayaH kAryo dvayaM api atra dRzyate ॥ 56-02 ॥

सलिलौद्यानयुक्तेषु कृतेष्वकृतेषु च । स्थानेष्वेतेषु सान्निध्यं उपगच्छन्ति देवताः ॥ ५६-०३ ॥

Places where there are waters and gardens, whether natural or artificial, are dwelt by the Devas.

english translation

salilaudyAnayukteSu kRteSvakRteSu ca । sthAneSveteSu sAnnidhyaM upagacchanti devatAH ॥ 56-03 ॥

सरःसु नलिनीछत्रनिरस्तरविरश्मिषु । हंसांसऽक्षिप्तकह्लारवीथी विमलवारिषु ॥ ५६-०४ ॥

The lakes are covered with lotus umbrellas and the rays are not layered. The streets of Kahlāra were filled with swans, and the waters were clear.

saraHsu nalinIchatranirastaravirazmiSu । haMsAMsa'kSiptakahlAravIthI vimalavAriSu ॥ 56-04 ॥

हंसकारण्डवक्रौञ्चचक्रवाकविराविषु । पर्यन्तनिचुलच्छायाविश्रान्तजलचारिषु ॥ ५६-०५ ॥

Among the swans, ducks, crows, cakravakas and birds of prey. They walked in the water resting in the low shade of the mountains.
