वृषस्य वृषदंशस्य रुरोश्च पृषतस्य च । तेषां उपरि सिंहस्य व्याघ्रस्य च ततः परम् ॥ ४८-७६ ॥

The bull skin shall be laid next to the ground; over it shall be laid the skin of the cat; over it again the skin of the Ruru (a kind of deer); over it the skin of the spotted antelope; over it again the skin of the lion, and over it the skin of the tiger.

english translation

vRSasya vRSadaMzasya rurozca pRSatasya ca । teSAM upari siMhasya vyAghrasya ca tataH param ॥ 48-76 ॥

मुख्यस्थाने जुहुयात्पुरोहितो अग्निं समित्तिलघृताद्यैः । त्रिनयनशक्रबृहस्पतिनारायणनित्यगतिऋग्भिः ॥ ४८-७७ ॥

The priest shall perform the Homa (fire) ceremony offering to the fire dried twigs, gingelly seeds, ghee and the like, reciting Ṛks sacred to Rudra, Indra, Bṛhaspati, Viṣṇu and Vāyu.

mukhyasthAne juhuyAtpurohito agniM samittilaghRtAdyaiH । trinayanazakrabRhaspatinArAyaNanityagatiRgbhiH ॥ 48-77 ॥

इन्द्रध्वजनिर्दिष्टान्यग्निनिमित्तानि दैवविद्ब्रूयात् । कृत्वा अशेषसमाप्तिं पुरोहितः प्राञ्जलिर्ब्रूयात् ॥ ४८-७८ ॥

The astrologer shall note the several indications connected with the Homa fire and make the predictions as stated in the chapter on Indra Dhvaja, and the priest, after completing what might remain of the ceremony, shall, with clasped hands, speak out as follows:

indradhvajanirdiSTAnyagninimittAni daivavidbrUyAt । kRtvA azeSasamAptiM purohitaH prAJjalirbrUyAt ॥ 48-78 ॥

यान्तु देवगणाः सर्वे पूजां आदाय पार्थिवात् । सिद्धिं दत्त्वा तु विपुलां पुनरागमनाय च ॥ ४८-७९ ॥

“May the Devas on receiving due pūjā from the king bestow blessings on him and depart.”

english translation

yAntu devagaNAH sarve pUjAM AdAya pArthivAt । siddhiM dattvA tu vipulAM punarAgamanAya ca ॥ 48-79 ॥

नृपतिरतो दैवज्ञं पुरोहितं चार्चयेद्धनैर्बहुभिः । अन्यांश्च दक्षिणीयान् यथोचितं श्रोत्रियप्रभृतीन् ॥ ४८-८० ॥

The king shall please the astrologer and the priest by the gift of large sums of money, and he shall also present money to the other Brāhmaṇas learned in the Vedas according to their merit.

english translation

nRpatirato daivajJaM purohitaM cArcayeddhanairbahubhiH । anyAMzca dakSiNIyAn yathocitaM zrotriyaprabhRtIn ॥ 48-80 ॥
