Brihat Samhita
शक्रकुमार्यः कार्याः प्राह मनुः सप्त पञ्च वा तज्ज्ञैः । नन्दौपनन्दसंज्ञे पादऊनार्धे ध्वजौच्छ्रायात् ॥ ४३-३९ ॥
Manu declared that those who are experts in such matters should fashion five or seven Indra-pole maidens; these, known as Nanda and Upananda, should be one quarter or one half less than the height of the banner-staff.
english translation
zakrakumAryaH kAryAH prAha manuH sapta paJca vA tajjJaiH । nandaupanandasaMjJe pAdaUnArdhe dhvajaucchrAyAt ॥ 43-39 ॥
