Brihat Samhita
दिवि भुक्तशुभफलानां पततां रूपाणि यानि तान्युल्काः । धिष्ण्याउल्काअशनिविद्युत्तारा इति पञ्चधा भिन्नाः ॥ ३३-०१ ॥
Meteors (ulkā) are appearances of those who, having enjoyed in the higher worlds the effects of their puṇya karma (good deeds), fall down to the Earth. These meteors are of five sorts known technichally as—1. Dhiṣṇya, 2. Ulkā, 3. Aśani (thunderbolt), 4. Vidyut (lightning), 5. Tārā (stars).

divi bhuktazubhaphalAnAM patatAM rUpANi yAni tAnyulkAH । dhiSNyAulkAazanividyuttArA iti paJcadhA bhinnAH ॥ 33-01 ॥
